Plasma vs LCD

Life Span: This is probably the biggest concern from the customers that come into the store, so I’ll hit it first.

Early plasmas had issues with screen burn-in (This is where a paused game or movie image gets etched or burned into the screen over time). Screen burn-in doesn’t just effect plasma screens, but has also effected other types of televisions including LCDs. Admittedly, this was more prevalent in the original plasmas. The newer generation of plasmas (those made in the past couple of years) have done their part to provide resistance to this. Also, modern devices like DVD’s, satellite receivers, etc. now provide screen savers (like our computers do).

Color life. Early plasmas had a problem with losing their color quality after within a few years. Now plasmas are capable of matching LCD’s in color life expectancy.

Another advantage that plasma televisions have over LCDs is that plasmas provide brighter colors, deeper reds, and blacker blacks. The blacker blacks is what makes the contrast look so much better on a plasma. Also, plasmas are able to show quick motion without blurring.

All of the LCDs that I have seen that are lower in price have “colder” colors (The best way I can explain it is that the picture seems blueish) and a lower contrast (the blacks aren’t all that black), so the picture isn’t as defined. Think of a white image on a black background or vice versa; you can make out all of the features on both because of the difference in contrast between the two. If you have a black image on a dark grey background, the features will not be as defined. The less expensive LCDs also have problems showing fast motion without blurring.

There are LCDs that are able to compete with plasmas quality. Those are normally priced a good bit higher than a plasma. For example, a 42” Hitachi plasma television would cost around $1400 which a comparative LCD would be somewhere around $1800.

Audio

SatCom is an authorized Yamaha distributor.

Choosing a surround sound:

Our surround sound solutions vary from conventional surround sound solutions with speakers spaced out around the room to custom in-wall solutions where the speakers are located inside the walls for an almost invisible look. The grills can be painted to match wall colors to further conceal the speakers. We can provide a professional installation by hiding the speaker wires inside the walls or ceilings.

A nice surround sound system should not only sound good but look good also.

For the customer who doesn’t want to go through some minor construction for a surround sound but doesn’t want to sacrifice the surround sound quality, Yamaha makes a one-piece surround sound system that can be placed at the front of the room and will emulate the effect of a surround sound by projecting (bouncing) the sounds. This is also a perfect solution for houses with a 2nd story or no ability to run wires for the speakers.

Speakers

SatCom is an Elan speaker distributor

We can provide a complete line of in-wall and external mount speakers for both whole house audio and surround sound audio systems.

With warrantiess ranging from two years on their outdoor speakers to lifetime on their Theater point home theater speakers, Elan is a “sound” choice for acoustically yet aesthetically pleasing audio solution for the home or business.

Distributed Audio and Distributed Audio / Video

Distributed Audio starts out as a simple “Single Zone” audio system. Basically, this is where you have one source (CD, Radio, Satellite TV or Radio, etc) playing in different rooms of the house. Each room can have a wall mounted volume control that allows for control in that room.

From there you grow into Multi-Zone distributed audio solutions. This is where you have several sources that can be played in multiple rooms. The different rooms can change what they are listening to as well as control the volume. Our systems range from the budget-friendly HAI Hi-Fi system to the touch panel-driven Elan Home systems.

Multi-zone Audio / Video is available on the higher-end Elan systems. Basically, multiple zones give you the ability to have several Audio / Video, Video, and Audio sources (Satellite, DVD, Cameras, CD, etc.) and have the ability to switch the source from any room with touch panels.
